During math period, the students worked diligently on solving one or multi steps word problems, connected with daily life, involving decimal numbers.

I would like to congratulate the students that have challenged themselves by taking the Mount Royal University math test. Everyone did a fantastic job!

In social studies, the students have learned in an interactive way about Fathers of Canadian Confederation.

In P.E. we have explored frisbee golf by taking advantage of the facilities found in the park located nearby the school.

Next week we will have the opportunity to learn from Elder Shirley Hill about Indigenous Teachings. The funds for this learning activity come from the A +for Energy Grant obtained by Mr. Florin for the students at Cappy Smart Elementary.

During math period, we review adding and subtracting and apply this concept to find sums and differences involving decimal numbers.

In writing, we worked on formulating cohesive paragraphs by reflecting over the ideas (childhood, labor, education) presented in the novel Front Desk by Kelly Yang. 

In science, while learning about Earth Day, we researched the human's impact over the climate and the solutions to address these challenges.

Through an engaging reader's theatre, the students have learned the factors that led to Canadian Confederation, as well as the main figures involved in this historic event.

 During math period, we have started to connect the concept of fractions with decimals.

In writing, we continued to reflect over the ideas (equity, immigration) presented in the novel Front Desk by Kelly Yang. 

In science, while working in teams, the students presented their Slide Presentations about sun's energy, its influence on seasons and animals' adaptations. In addition, we conducted 5 experiments investigating the properties (waterproof, insulation, windproof) of 3 materials (cotton, wool, vinyl) and connected the newly gained information with weather and clothing.

On Wednesday, grade 5 students had the opportunity to have a virtual tour of Dr. Egbert School by meeting some of the teachers and asking questions.

During math period, while solving practical word problems, the students applied the multiplication, division and fraction concepts.

In writing, we started the novel Front Desk by Kelly Yang. We made predictions and personal connections with the text.

In social studies, the students began to learn about Calgary Stampede, its origins, impact on economy, legacy and attractions. 

In science, while working in teams, the students created Slide Presentations about sun's energy, its influence on seasons and animals' adaptations.
